Beautiful Siena

From March, 2018

It has been wonderful to have lovely side-trips both for work and play during this Fulbright in Italy. Mark and I went to Siena—a Tuscan medieval hill town—when he was here over spring break in March. He had never been to the city and I had a whirlwind trip here in 2017 to run seminars for faculty and Students at the University of Siena and truly didn’t have time to appreciate this gem.

Laura in the Piazza
Looking down the street toward the piazza.

Piazza Il Campo where the Palio horse race is run.

Mark, being an expert travel planner, found a gorgeous B&B with a terrace overlooking the Piazza Il Campo. We enjoyed watching the bustle in the center of Siena both day and night. We also enjoyed sunshine and good weather after a very rainy stay in Florence (Firenze) on the same trip.

The view from our lovely terrace and B&B.
Finally, we had amazing meals! We got great advice from our B&B host and friend, Monica Fedeli. We dined among the locals and marveled at their wonderful dishes!

I'll let Mark's excellent photography speak for itself...

Duomo. Fabulous inside and out.

A beautiful shrine.

Siena by night.

Aerial views of the city...

We climbed the over 500 steps to the top of the Duomo and took in fabulous views of the Tuscan countryside, despite high winds.

The travels continue...stay tuned, I have some catching up to do on posts!
